Sending and automation

Write text alternatives with spintax

Prepare several wording choices inside one message and inspect their previews.

Before you begin

Spintax is a text pattern from which the sender randomly selects alternatives. Use a supporting campaign or sequence editor. The interface language does not translate the message you write.

What to do

  1. Open a message field in Sequences or the campaign editor.
  2. Enter choices between braces, separated by a vertical bar, such as {Hello|Hi}. Each choice should work in the surrounding sentence.
  3. Add an optional block such as {?Thank you!} when that phrase may be omitted.
  4. Add {{phone}} for a recipient number or {{index}} for its position only when that sending flow supplies the values. Neither means the person’s name.
  5. Use the spintax preview to inspect generated wording. Repeated previews may choose the same alternative.
  6. Correct any unmatched braces before saving the message.

Worked example

Fictional example: {Hello|Hi}! The workshop starts at 14:00. {?Thank you!} Reply PARAR to stop reminders. The greeting varies and Thank you! may be omitted. The time and cancellation instruction remain. Test with a recipient you control.

How to check it worked

The preview shows complete sentences without unwanted braces. Check a controlled campaign test in the receiving conversation; preview alone does not confirm delivery.

What to know

  • Nested alternatives are supported, but a short pattern is easier to review. Optional blocks may appear or be omitted; do not place essential dates or cancellation instructions only in an optional block.
  • Campaign processing supports these alternatives. A quick-send preview alone does not prove the outgoing message will be substituted, especially in Console Pro. Confirm any test in the receiving conversation.

Common problems

The editor reports unmatched braces.
What to do
Compare each opening brace with its closing brace and remove an extra brace.
What to expect
The syntax error disappears.
What you see
A variable remains visible in preview.
What to do
Check whether the selected flow supplies that variable; remove unsupported personalization.
What to expect
Supported values are substituted where provided, without promising a customer name.

Spintax does not guarantee a different message for every recipient or prevent account restrictions. Keep every possible variation accurate and suitable for its recipient.
